Worldview Quiz Answers

1. The cosmos is all that is, all that was, and all that ever will be.
(Materialism, Naturalism) This statement, authored by Carl Sagon is pure materialism. A Communist would be in full agreement. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.." - John 1:1

2. Man has a responsibility to rule over nature.
True: (New Age, Animism) "The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." - Gen 2:15 "....fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground. - Gen 1:28

3. The basic problems of the world are rooted in society and social systems.
False: (Communism, Socialism) This is one of the foundation stones of Marxism. Biblical truth teaches us that sin is at the root of all our problems, and that man is personally accountable for his sin.
Rom 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

4. Human life and animal life have the same worth.
False: (Hinduism, Animism, Naturalism, Evolution). This idea has fueled the radical animal rights groups who have threatened medical research in recent years. Jesus said, "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Luke 12:7 "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.'" - Gen 1:26 The Bible goes on to teach that animals ought to be treated humanely. Deut. 25:4 "Do not muzzle an ox when he treads out grain." The SPCA was an outgrowth of the 19th century church.

5. Our natural resources will one day be spent, leaving mankind in a desperate situation.
False: (Naturalism, Communism). "You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it." - Ps 65:9 The earth holds vast supplies of natural resources that have never even been tapped. Not only so, but it's greatest resource is the imagination of man fueled by an infinite God. One hundred years ago oil was only a sticky nuisance that polluted the ground of farmers. But by the inventiveness of man it has become a powerful resource. Computer chips are manufactured out of common "worthless" sand. God is ever at work in the world enriching it with resources and creativity to meet the demands of it's people.

6. Population control is man's responsibility as a good steward of the earth.
False: (Materialism, Darwinism, Naturalism). "Be fruitful and increase in number." - Gen 1:28 The world is able to sustain well beyond our present population. As our population grows, newer technology is being developed to sustain greater and great numbers of people.

7. It is the responsibility of good government to educate it's people.
False: (Socialism).
You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” (Deut. 6:7) This is a prime example of Christians adapting to the popular worldview of the day. Only in the last 150 years has this idea come into prominence. From the beginning, God entrusted education, (the passing on of truth), to parents.

8. History is more like a circle than a line.
False:
(Animism, Hinduism, Buddhism). "But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness." 2 Pet 3:13 History is linear, beginning with creation and culminating with the reign of Christ over a "new heaven and a new earth." Cultures that hold to the "cycle" concept of history are devoid of both scientific and technological progress.

9.The world's basic problems can be solved through science and better education.
False: (Naturalism) "For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." Col 1:19-20 The problem with the world is not an educational problem, it is a sin problem. And the answer to sin is in the work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

10. Life has no universal meaning. Each person must create his own purpose.
False: (Materialism, Postmodernism). "' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth - everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." Isaiah 43:6-7 It is a fact of reality that every created thing has purpose. Why would man - the crown of God's creation - be without purpose and meaning?

11. If one person has more than he needs, then he has someone else's goods.
False:
(Communism). In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has." - Prov 21:20 I found this statement posted on the bulletin board of a church. Though it sounds innocuous on the surface, one of my young Bosnian friends quickly identified it as "Communist Materialism." Biblical thinking says that we should share what we have with others: "The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same." (John 3:11) But we cannot give what we do not own.

12. Man is ultimately an insignificant part of the universe.
False:
(Naturalism, Postmodernism). "You made him (man) a little lower than the angels and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet:" - Psalm 8:5-6 Man was not an "afterthought" in the universe, but the crowning creation of a loving God. God made the universe itself as a home for man.

13. "Quality of life" should be considered before administering life-saving procedures to birth-defect infants.
False: (Naturalism, Materialism).
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139: 15-16 Every human life is sacred to God, and He has a purpose for even the most frail and handicapped. When man begins to make choices about which lives are worthy and which are not, he steps into a place of judgment that belongs to God alone. "On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty," 1 Cor 12:22-23

14. Some races and ethnic groups are superior to others.
False: (Hinduism - the caste system, Nazism, Eugenics and Planned Parenthood). "God does not show favoritism." - Rom. 2:11
...there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.” Col 3:11 “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” Phil. 2:3

15. Much of our lives is determined by fate.
False: (Islam, New Age). On the contrary, the entire Biblical record teaches that man is responsible for his choices. "What a man sows, that will he also reap." (Gal. 6:7) Although God is all powerful, He is not all controlling. He has given to man the power of choice, and thus the ability to create history. "Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. " - Prov 16:3

16. There is a natural divide in life between sacred and secular, spiritual and unspiritual.
False: (Evangelical Gnosticism). "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." - 1 Cor 10:31 This erroneous dichotomy of sacred/secular thinking grew out of the Greek philosophy that the spiritual world was "good" and the material world was "evil." Commonly accepted in the church, this kind of thinking has led to cultural decline and the "secularization" of our society. It has, for instance, kept Christians distanced from politics, education, the media, and the arts because these disciplines are thought of as "secular." Biblical thought teaches that all of life is sacred.

17. Poverty is the result of the unequal distribution of the earth's resources.
False:
(Communist Materialism). "The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor." - 1 Sam 2:7-8 "Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." - Prov. 3:9-10 Poverty is not the result of "external forces," but of the internal condition of a man's heart and mind. God gives man the ability to produce riches even in the midst of limited resources. Present day Israel is a striking example of this. Under Arab control the land was a vast desert of sand. But when Israel took possession of the land it began to bloom with prosperity and promise.

18. Moral law is absolute and trans-cultural.
True:
(Naturalism, Materialism). "I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." - Matt. 5:18
My Bosnian friend said, "Well..... if there was no God, and no lawgiver this would not be true. But since you and I know there is a God, and that He gives moral law, then this is true."

19. Man is inherently good.
False: (Islam, New Age, Communism, Naturalism, Unitarianism). "There is no one righteous, not even one...." - Rom 3:10
“No one is good except God alone.” Mark 10:18 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jer 17:9

20. All belief systems are equally valid.
False:
(Postmodernism, New Age, PC Movement). "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." (Prov 16:25) "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matt 7:13-14) This idea breaks even the rules of logic.
